Engineering mobility. Empowering lives.
Service and Innovation
Every prosthetic fitted represents more than a medical device—it represents renewed independence and opportunity. Mercer On Mission Vietnam brings together students and clinicians to restore mobility and dignity for patients while building lasting partnerships with the communities they serve.
Support for Communities
Many rural communities in Vietnam face limited access to specialized healthcare and rehabilitative services. The Mercer On Mission Orthopaedic & Prosthetic Program partners with local clinics and providers to deliver prosthetic care directly to these regions, bringing essential resources to patients who would otherwise go without treatment. By returning to these communities year after year, the program builds lasting relationships and sustainable support systems.
Prosthetics & Orthotics Reimagined
Traditional prosthetic care can be costly and time-intensive, limiting access for many patients. The Mercer Universal Prosthesis was developed to change that. Using a simplified, standardized design that allows for faster fitting and lower production costs without sacrificing function, this innovation enables Mercer On Mission teams to serve more patients and expand access to care in communities that need it most. By combining thoughtful engineering with real-world application, the program delivers scalable solutions that restore mobility and independence.
Healthcare Made Accessible
In addition to prosthetic care, Mercer On Mission addresses broader healthcare needs in underserved communities. Teams evaluate orthopaedic patients, perform screenings such as blood pressure and glucose checks, and provide basic medications when appropriate, helping to bridge critical gaps in access to care and improving overall patient outcomes. Through these efforts, the team helps identify untreated conditions, initiate care, and connect patients with resources that support long-term health.
“These experiences transformed how I see medicine and engineering - not as separate fields, but as disciplines that, when combined, can directly change lives. ”
